Tatyova Benthic Druid

Tatyova Benthic Druid

Hello everyone! Welcome to the second edition of The Magic Hole! Have you ever found yourself wanting to draw a million cards while also playing a million lands? Well boy do I have a deck for you. This time around, we’re venturing into the world of Historic Brawl, where we can find one the most powerful uncommon commanders to ever have existed (in my humble opinion).

Tatyova, Benthic Druid is a Simic commander out of Dominaria that allows you to draw a card and gain one life every time a land enters the battlefield under your control. Basically, you draw an ungodly amount of cards and gain enough life to stabilize against more aggressive decks, which are plentiful in the 1v1 format of brawl.

Tatyova, Benthic Druid

I’ll be honest, this deck is fun as hell and can do some pretty degenerate and disgusting things. As you’ll see in the video, some of those things are scoop worthy. And honestly I can’t say I can blame anyone for scooping after I steal your ENTIRE board with a Mass Manipulation. Or when they see roughly the amount of bugs seen in the late-90s classic Starship Troopers charging directly at their face thanks to Scute Swarm.

Speaking of Scute Swarm, this card can generate enough tokens to make a kid at Chuckie Cheese have an aneurysm. With the help of, ya’ know, playing lands (which this deck does quite well I would say) and will some of its pals. Ancient Greenwarder, for example. This bad boy doubles up all of our ‘enters-the-battle-field’ triggers that have to do with lands, doubling Scute Swarms tokens, and the Tatyova triggers.

But there’s more where that came from...

We also have Finale of Devastation and End-Raze Forerunners. Which as long as we have access to twelve mana, gives all of our creatures an extra twelve power as well as haste, vigilance, and trample! It doesn’t take many insects to make that lethal damage. We got to see a great example of this in the gameplay footage (minus the Scute Swarm army, unfortunately) and it was absolutely glorious.

To sum up, this deck is the shit. The amount of shenanigans you can pull off with playing a bunch of land, drawing a bunch of cards, and gaining a bunch of life, all while stealing your opponents stuff, or amassing an army of bugs is incredible. It just feels right, you know? Like taking your shoes off after a hard day's work, or canceling plans you made weeks ago while you were somewhat optimistic about the thought of spending any amount of time with another human to instead stay home and play some Magic.
